Vianden (Luxembourg)

Weather…

Vianden is the crown jewel of the Luxembourgish Ardennes, set in the narrow valley of the Our River. The town is overlooked by Vianden Castle, a massive fortification built between the 11th and 14th centuries on the site of a Roman castellum. It served as the seat of the influential Counts of Vianden before falling into ruin and being meticulously restored starting in 1977. Visitors can take a chairlift to a viewpoint at 440 meters for a striking vista of the castle and the surrounding forests. Victor Hugo lived here in exile during the 19th century, and his house is now a museum. The town also hosts a famous Walnut Market every October.
