The Mariahilf Chapel in Balzers is a masterpiece of late Baroque ecclesiastical architecture in the Principality of Liechtenstein. It was built between 1765 and 1768 according to designs by the Vorarlberg master builder Jakob Singer and was solemnly consecrated in 1832. The chapel is renowned for its harmonious architectural design and magnificent interior decoration, which reflects the artistic transition from Baroque to Rococo. Of particular significance is the high altar, which features a copy of the famous 'Mariahilf' devotional painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The ceiling frescoes depict scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary, lending the space a deeply spiritual atmosphere. For centuries, the chapel served as an important pilgrimage site for the local community and as a spiritual haven during times of crisis. Thanks to meticulous restorations in 1982 and 2002, this sacred building shines once again in its original splendor and stands as an important testament to the regional religious folk art.
