This area was originally a pristine floodplain landscape regularly flooded by the Alpine Rhine, leading to the deposition of fertile sediments. With systematic drainage and protection by the Rhine dam, the area transformed into valuable agricultural land. In recent decades, Under Au has undergone a transformation where commercial uses and modern residential buildings have emerged alongside farming. Its proximity to the river makes the area an important local recreation space today, with renaturation projects partially restoring the original dynamics of the Rhine. The zone also serves as an important buffer between the built-up core areas of Gamprin and the natural river floodplain. Due to its flat topography, the area is convenient for cycling paths that provide a fast connection between the municipalities of the lowlands.
