Mandera is located in the extreme northeastern corner of Kenya, serving as a strategic hub at the triple border with Ethiopia and Somalia. The town is characterized by an extremely arid climate, where temperatures often soar above 30 degrees Celsius and annual rainfall is minimal. Historically, the region has been a vital crossroads for nomadic communities and cross-border trade within the Horn of Africa. Geographically, the area is bounded by the Daua River, which marks the border with Ethiopia and provides essential water for local irrigation projects. The population consists primarily of ethnic Somalis, whose cultural practices and pastoral traditions define the social fabric of the region. Despite its remote location and significant infrastructural challenges, Mandera has developed into a critical administrative and economic center for Mandera County, thriving on livestock trade and regional commerce.
