Mount Nebo (Jordan)

Weather…

Mount Nebo is one of the most sacred sites in Jordan, revered as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land before his death. Standing approximately 710 meters above sea level, the summit gives a magnificent panoramic view across the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and on clear days, as far as Jerusalem and Bethlehem. The site features the Memorial Church of Moses, originally a 4th-century sanctuary that was expanded into a larger basilica during the 6th century. It is world-renowned for its incredibly well-preserved Byzantine mosaics, which depict intricate hunting scenes, pastoral life, and a diverse array of flora and fauna. A prominent modern landmark is the Brazen Serpent Monument, created by Italian artist Giovanni Fantoni, symbolizing both the bronze staff of Moses and the crucifixion of Jesus. In 2000, Pope John Paul II visited the site during his pilgrimage to the Holy Land, planting an olive tree next to the Byzantine chapel. Today, Mount Nebo is a major center for religious tourism and archaeological study.
