Fifa Nature Reserve (Jordan)

Weather…

Fifa Nature Reserve was established in 2011 and is distinguished as the lowest nature reserve on Earth. Located in the Jordan Valley, southwest of the Dead Sea, it sits at approximately 426 meters below sea level. The reserve protects a unique ecosystem of salt marshes and subtropical wetlands known as the 'Ghor'. It holds international ecological significance by providing a habitat for rare and endangered species, including the endemic Dead Sea toothcarp. Because of its warm microclimate, the area serves as a vital wintering ground for numerous migratory birds traveling between Europe and Africa. The vegetation is characterized by salt-tolerant plants like tamarisks and the distinctive Salvadora persica (toothbrush tree). Despite its relatively small size, the reserve plays a crucial role in maintaining the biological diversity of the Jordan Rift Valley.
