Dead Sea Works (Israel)

Weather…

The Dead Sea Works, located at the southern basin of the Dead Sea in the Sdom region, is one of the world's leading producers of potash and bromine. Established in 1930 as Palestine Potash Limited, it was nationalized in 1952 and currently operates as a subsidiary of ICL Group. The facility utilizes massive evaporation ponds to extract essential minerals from the highly saline waters of the lake, relying on solar energy as the primary driver for concentration. Key products include potash for global fertilizer markets, magnesium, and various industrial salts used in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. Situated at the lowest point on Earth's land surface, the plant operates under unique geographical and climatic conditions that favor mineral extraction. Finished materials are transported via a massive conveyor belt system up the desert escarpment to the railway line for export through Ashdod and Eilat ports. While a critical economic asset, the works face ongoing scrutiny regarding environmental sustainability and their role in the receding water level of the Dead Sea.
