Qasr Tuba (Jordan)

Weather…

Qasr Tuba is one of the most remote and isolated Umayyad desert castles, situated deep in the Jordanian desert about 100 kilometers southeast of Amman. Constructed in 743 AD during the reign of Caliph Walid II, it was originally planned as a massive double-palace complex intended to function as a caravanserai for travelers. The architecture is unique for its use of baked mud-bricks for the vaulted ceilings and limestone for the foundations, a combination reflecting diverse cultural influences. Like several other of Walid II's grand projects, Qasr Tuba was never finished following his assassination, leaving it in a state of arrested development. The expansive ruins feature enclosure walls, semi-circular defensive towers, and the layouts of residential rooms organized around two large courtyards. Due to its difficult-to-reach location, the site remains one of Jordan's most untouched and evocative examples of early Islamic desert architecture.
