Falmouth Historic Courthouse (Jamaica)

Weather…

The Falmouth Historic Courthouse is a centerpiece of what is considered the best-preserved Georgian town in the Caribbean. Originally built in 1815, the courthouse reflects the immense prosperity Falmouth enjoyed as a major sugar-exporting port in the early 19th century. The building's architecture is a fine example of Jamaican Georgian style, featuring a symmetrical facade, a grand portico with columns, and a prominent clock tower. In 1926, a devastating fire destroyed much of the original structure, but it was faithfully rebuilt to match its former glory. Throughout its history, the building has served as more than just a court; it was the social and political hub of Trelawny, hosting grand balls and public meetings. Today, it houses the Trelawny Parish Municipal Corporation and remains a functioning court. Its location near the new cruise ship pier makes it a popular starting point for heritage walking tours that explore the town's rich colonial history.
