Mumbai Port (India)

Weather…

Mumbai Port, located on the eastern waterfront of Mumbai in Maharashtra, is one of India's oldest and most vital natural deep-water harbors. Established as a port trust in 1873, it has served as the premier gateway to the Indian subcontinent for over a century. The port spans a natural harbor basin of approximately 400 square kilometers and features three major wet docks: Prince's, Victoria, and Indira Docks, all constructed during the British colonial era. Historically, the port was instrumental in the export of cotton and textiles, which fueled Mumbai's rise as India's industrial powerhouse. While much of the modern container traffic has shifted to the nearby Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), Mumbai Port remains a critical hub for handling bulk cargo, chemicals, and petroleum products. Currently, the port area is undergoing a massive redevelopment project aimed at converting underutilized land into public spaces, tourism hubs, and modern urban infrastructure while upgrading maritime facilities.
