The Koumbia Bauxite Mine is a major mining project in the Gaoual Prefecture, located in the Boké Region of northwestern Guinea. Developed by Alliance Mining Commodities (AMC), the project targets one of the world's largest untapped bauxite deposits, distinguished by its exceptionally high alumina content. Geographically, Koumbia is situated on an extensive plateau within the prolific West Guinean bauxite belt. Developing this site requires significant logistical preparation, including the construction of a dedicated transport corridor to reach the coast. Economically, Koumbia is a cornerstone of Guinea's strategy to further cement its position as a global leader in bauxite exports. The ore found here is considered premium grade due to its low reactive silica content, which enhances the efficiency of the aluminum refining process. Even in its developmental stages, the project has contributed to infrastructure improvements in the remote Gaoual Prefecture. Beyond its economic impact, the mine faces the challenge of balancing industrial operations with environmental conservation and supporting the local rural communities that primarily rely on livestock farming.

The Koumbia bauxite mine in the Boké region is one of the newer mines and part of Guinea's massive expansion to become a leading global bauxite exporter. It mines high-quality ore for export.

Visiting

The mine is an active mining area and usually not accessible to the public. From the main road near Koumbia, waste heaps and the access road to the open pits can be seen.

A good viewpoint is the hill along the road to Boké, from where the vast mining landscape with extraction equipment is visible. A nearby hill also features an overview of the mine's extent.

The main product is bauxite ore for export. In the Boké region, local products such as rice, peanuts, and palm oil can be bought on markets, offered by mining communities.

The mine operates year-round, with increased activity during the dry season from November to April when roads are more passable. Exports are continuous via the port of Kamsar.
