Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (Ghana)

Weather…

The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, situated in the Western Region of Ghana, is a cornerstone of the nation's strategic energy infrastructure. Operated by the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas), the facility was completed in 2014 and is designed to process associated and non-associated natural gas from the offshore Jubilee and TEN fields. Before its commissioning, much of the gas produced alongside oil was flared; now, Atuabo purifies this gas and converts it into valuable by-products including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), pentane, condensates, and lean gas. The lean gas is critical for Ghana's power sector, as it is transported via pipeline to fuel thermal power plants in the Aboadze power enclave near Takoradi. The project, which cost approximately $1 billion, marks a significant shift toward energy independence and industrial self-reliance. With a processing capacity of 150 million standard cubic feet per day, the plant helps reduce electricity costs and lowers the carbon footprint of the domestic energy mix.
