Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Tallinn (Estonia)

Weather…

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is Tallinn's largest and most ornate Orthodox church, prominently situated on Toompea Hill. Built between 1894 and 1900 according to designs by Mikhail Preobrazhensky, it features a distinctive Russian Revival architectural style. The cathedral was originally intended as a symbol of Russian imperial authority and Russification policies in the Estonian province, making it a subject of controversy for many years. Its five massive onion domes and mosaic-adorned facades dominate the skyline of the historic Lower Town. The bell towers house eleven bells, including Estonia's largest bell weighing 15 tons, which can be heard before every service. Despite demolition proposals in the 1920s, the structure was preserved and underwent extensive restoration following Estonia's restoration of independence in 1991.
