Torre del Reloj (Ecuador)

Weather…

The Torre del Reloj, also known as the Moorish Tower, is one of the most iconic landmarks of Guayaquil, located on the Malecón 2000 along the banks of the Guayas River. The current tower was built between 1930 and 1934 in the Neo-Moorish style, characterized by its intricate decorations and distinctive dome. However, the history of the clock itself dates back much further; the mechanical movement was ordered from England in 1842 and arrived in the city during the presidency of Vicente Rocafuerte. Originally, the clock was housed in various other buildings before finding its permanent home in this specially designed tower. Its architecture blends oriental design elements with early 20th-century modernism and symbolizes the prosperity and cultural exchange of the port city. The tower stands approximately 23 meters high and is spectacularly illuminated at night. As part of the city's historical heritage, it represents a bridge between 19th-century industrial development and 20th-century urban aesthetics.
