The Blue Planet (Denmark)

Weather…

Den Blå Planet (The Blue Planet) in Kastrup, near Copenhagen, is the largest aquarium in Northern Europe and a masterpiece of modern Danish architecture. Designed by the architectural firm 3XN, the building opened in March 2013 and is shaped like a giant whirlpool. This spiral structure leads visitors from the central foyer into various thematic sections showcasing the flora and fauna of the world's oceans, rivers, and lakes. The aquarium is home to approximately 20,000 animals living in over 50 tanks, which together hold seven million liters of water. One of its most impressive attractions is the Ocean Tank, featuring a glass tunnel where hammerhead sharks and rays swim directly over visitors' heads. Other sections are dedicated to African lakes and Danish coastal waters. Den Blå Planet employs state-of-the-art filtration systems to ensure optimal water quality for its sensitive ecosystems. Its location right on the shores of the Øresund sound emphasizes its connection to the sea and has views of the Øresund Bridge connecting to Sweden.
