Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek
The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen is an art museum of international stature, founded in 1888 by the brewing magnate Carl Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg. The museum houses an extraordinary collection of ancient art from Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome, alongside a significant collection of French Impressionist works and Danish Golden Age paintings. An architectural masterpiece in its own right, the museum's centerpiece is the lush Winter Garden from 1906, a light-filled space featuring palm trees and a grand glass dome that connects the various building wings. The architecture reflects the grandeur of the Historicist style, with wings designed by prominent architects such as Vilhelm Dahlerup and Hack Kampmann. Jacobsen's deep passion for sculpture is evident in the museum's extensive collection of Auguste Rodin's works, one of the largest and most significant outside of France. The unique combination of ancient marble statues and modern canvases creates an atmosphere that brings thousands of years of art history to life. Situated adjacent to the Tivoli Gardens, the museum is renowned for its excellent acoustics and the exquisite presentation of its masterpieces. Beyond its permanent collections, the Glyptotek regularly hosts world-class special exhibitions and concerts, serving as a cultural sanctuary in the heart of Copenhagen.
