💡 Tips
- Břeclav is completely flat and features an extensive network of cycling paths; renting a bike is the absolute best way to explore the region.
- As a major border junction, the local train station is huge. Always double-check your platform number in advance as walking distances can be long.
- The nearby Lednice-Valtice complex is vast. Buy a joint ticket if you plan to visit multiple chateaux or glasshouses to save money.
- South Moravia is famous for its wine. Instead of beer, try the local white wines in a traditional 'sklípek' (wine cellar).
- Mosquitoes can be a nuisance in the nearby floodplain forests during summer, so bringing insect repellent is highly recommended.

Břeclav is a vital railway hub located in the southernmost part of Moravia, near the borders with Austria and Slovakia. Situated on the Dyje river, the town was named after Prince Břetislav I, who established a border fortress here in the 11th century. A defining moment in the town's history occurred in 1839, when the first train arrived from Vienna, making Břeclav the first railway junction in the Habsburg Monarchy. Today, the town serves as the gateway to the UNESCO-listed Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, which extends in its immediate vicinity. Architectural highlights include the Břeclav Castle, remodeled in the 19th century into an artificial Neogothic ruin, and the modern Church of St. Wenceslaus. Nature enthusiasts appreciate the nearby Pohansko area, which features significant archaeological sites from the Great Moravian Empire period and extensive flood-plain forests.
