Maritime Museum Brunei (Brunei)

Weather…

The Maritime Museum of Brunei is located in the Kota Batu district, near the Malay Technology Museum and the Brunei River. Officially opened in 2015, the museum is dedicated to the nation's extensive maritime history and trading heritage spanning over a thousand years. Its primary focus is the 'Brunei Shipwreck,' discovered in 1997, which dates back to the late 15th century and was found in waters 62 meters deep. Over 13,500 artifacts, mostly high-quality ceramics from China and Vietnam, were recovered from the site, providing vital evidence of regional trade networks during the empire's peak. The building's modern design incorporates three main galleries that showcase the evolution of shipbuilding and naval commerce. It serves as a significant center for maritime archaeology and historical research in Southeast Asia today, preserving the legacy of Brunei as a maritime power.
