Blagaj Tekke
The Blagaj Tekke is a 16th-century Dervish monastery situated at the sweeping source of the Buna River in the heart of Herzegovina. Built for the Bektashi order, this architectural complex is a unique blend of Ottoman building traditions and the surrounding karst landscape. The Buna spring is one of Europe's largest and most powerful karstic springs, emerging from a cave at the base of a towering 200-meter-high cliff. The Tekke building features distinct wooden balconies and white stone walls that harmonize perfectly with the natural cave entrance and rushing water. Historically, it served as a center for Sufi spiritual practices and meditation, and it remains a significant place for pilgrims and travelers today. Beyond its religious importance, Blagaj features a serene atmosphere with its turquoise waters and the nearby ruins of the medieval fortress of Duke Stjepan Vukčić Kosača overlooking the valley.
