Beni Biological Station (Bolivia)

Weather…

The Beni Biological Station (EBB) is a biosphere reserve located in the Beni Department of northeastern Bolivia. Established in 1982, the protected area covers approximately 1,350 square kilometers and was recognized by UNESCO in 1986. The region is an ecological mosaic of seasonally flooded savannas, wetlands, and gallery forests typical of the Llanos de Moxos. The EBB is an internationally significant research center focused on studying tropical ecosystems and protecting endangered species. Animals living here include the maned wolf, the giant anteater, and the rare blue-throated macaw. A unique feature of the reserve is the involvement of the local Chimane indigenous people in its management, linking nature conservation with cultural preservation. The area also serves to protect archaeological sites belonging to pre-Columbian hydraulic cultures. Despite its status, the reserve is threatened by cattle ranching and poaching.
