Farley Hill National Park (Barbados)

Weather…

Farley Hill National Park in the parish of St. Peter provides some of the most dramatic views of Barbados’ rugged Atlantic coast. The centerpiece of the park is the skeletal remains of what was once a grand 19th-century mansion built for Sir Graham Briggs. During its peak, Farley Hill House was renowned as one of the finest palatial residences in the West Indies, having hosted members of the British Royal Family. A catastrophic fire in 1965 reduced the mansion to ruins, but the weathered stone walls standing amidst a grove of towering mahogany trees still project an air of lost grandeur. The site gained international fame in the late 1950s when it served as a primary filming location for the movie 'Island in the Sun.' Officially opened as a national park by Queen Elizabeth II in 1966, the grounds are now a popular venue for picnics and major music events like the Barbados Jazz Festival. It remains a place where visitors can reflect on colonial history while enjoying a panoramic vista of the Scotland District.
