Madhupur Tract (Bangladesh)

Weather…

The Madhupur Tract is a large upland area in central Bangladesh, spanning the districts of Tangail, Mymensingh, and Gazipur. It rises about 10 to 20 meters above the surrounding alluvial plains and is characterized by its distinctive red lateritic soil. This region contains one of the largest remaining tracts of Sal forest in the country, playing a vital role in supporting regional biodiversity. Historically, the Madhupur Tract was a continuous forested landscape, though it is now heavily fragmented due to human activity. Madhupur National Park was established within this tract to safeguard rare species such as the capped langur and the rhesus macaque. The area is also home to the indigenous Mandi (Garo) community, who have lived in harmony with the forest for generations, practicing traditional agroforestry and preserving their cultural heritage.
