Blackbeard's Tower (Bahamas)

Weather…

Blackbeard's Tower is a historic stone structure located on a ridge in eastern Nassau, traditionally linked to the notorious pirate Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. While concrete evidence of its direct use by the pirate is limited, the tower likely dates back to the late 17th or early 18th century. It functioned primarily as a lookout post, providing a strategic vantage point to monitor incoming vessels approaching Nassau Harbour. Constructed from rough-cut limestone, the tower stands approximately 20 feet high, a significant elevation for surveillance at the time. During the era of the Pirate Republic in Nassau (1706-1718), this location was good for spotting merchant ships and naval patrols. Today, the ruins serve as a symbolic landmark of the Golden Age of Piracy and early Bahamian colonial history, offering sweeping views of the eastern coastline and the Atlantic Ocean.
