Best season
The best time for birdwatching is during the winter months from December to March when migratory birds arrive from North America. Herons, ibises and ducks are especially abundant in the mangroves and pine forests.

Early morning is optimal to enjoy the bird song in the mangroves and pine forests. Late afternoon also provides good sightings as birds become active again.
Etiquette
Stay on the boardwalks and designated trails to avoid damaging the sensitive mangrove roots. Do not feed birds and avoid loud conversations so as not to disturb wildlife.
What to bring
Binoculars with good close focusing are helpful for spotting birds in the dense mangroves. Sunscreen, hat and insect repellent are essential in the open areas.

Lucayan National Park is located on Grand Bahama Island and is about a 20-minute drive from Freeport. The park has well-marked hiking trails and a parking lot.
