Bischofshofen is a town in the state of Salzburg, located in the heart of the Pongau region on the Salzach River. Internationally, the town is best known as the venue for the grand finale of the Four Hills Tournament at the Paul Außerleitner Hill, one of the world's most prestigious ski jumping facilities. The town's history dates back to the 8th century when a monastery was founded here, closely linked to the Bishopric of Salzburg. An architectural gem is the Frauenkirche with its Gothic frescoes and the famous Rupert Cross, a masterpiece of medieval goldsmithing. Geographically, Bischofshofen is surrounded by the majestic Berchtesgaden Alps and the Tennengebirge mountains, making it a hub for alpinism and winter sports. Beyond tourism, industry, particularly mining and metal processing, has played a historically significant role in the region's development.
