Dover is a tranquil coastal town in Tasmania's Far South, set on the shores of the easy on the eye Port Esperance bay. Surrounded by dense forests and majestic mountain peaks, including the prominent Adamsons Peak, the town gives a dramatic and unspoiled natural backdrop. Originally established as a convict probation station in the 19th century, Dover later evolved into a thriving hub for timber milling and apple orcharding. The coastal environment of Dover is spectacular, featuring the serene Kent Beach, which is fringed by mature trees and provides a well-suited spot for beachcombing, safe swimming, and kayaking. The pristine waters of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Huon estuary teem with marine life, making it a premier location for recreational fishing and boating. Three small islands in the bay (Faith, Hope, and Charity) add a unique charm to the views. Culinarily, Dover heavily features the bountiful local produce of the region. Fresh Atlantic salmon from the local aquaculture farms and premium cool-climate wines are absolute must-tries. The town is located about an hour and a half's drive south of Hobart, easily reached via the scenic Huon Highway.
