Das Ford-Werk in Köln-Niehl ist seit über 90 Jahren das industrielle Rückgrat von Ford in Europa und beherbergt neben der Produktion auch die europäische Konzernzentrale. Die Grundsteinlegung erfolgte 1930 durch Henry Ford und den damaligen Kölner Oberbürgermeister Konrad Adenauer, was den Beginn einer langen Tradition am Standort markierte. Über Jahrzehnte war Köln das Herz der Produktion ikonischer Modelle wie dem Ford Fiesta, von dem hier Millionen Einheiten vom Band liefen. Aktuell durchläuft das Werk die größte Transformation seiner Geschichte: Mit einer Investition von rund zwei Milliarden US-Dollar wurde der Standort zum 'Cologne Electric Vehicle Center' umgebaut, dem ersten Ford-Werk weltweit, das ausschließlich Elektroautos für den europäischen Markt fertigt. Das 300 Hektar große Gelände verfügt über ein eigenes Heizkraftwerk und einen Hafen am Rhein, was eine hocheffiziente Logistik und Energieversorgung ermöglicht. Mit rund 14.000 Mitarbeitern aus über 90 Nationen ist Ford einer der größten Arbeitgeber Kölns und ein Symbol für internationale industrielle Kooperation.
