Oder, 854 kilometrelik toplam uzunluğuyla Orta Avrupa'nın en önemli akarsularından biridir ve 162 kilometre boyunca Almanya ile Polonya arasındaki devlet sınırını oluşturur. Çekya'daki Oder dağlarında 634 metre yükseklikte doğar ve Silezya ile Lubusz toprakları üzerinden kuzeye, Ostsee'ye (Baltık Denizi) doğru akar. Oder havzası yaklaşık 119.000 kilometrekareyi kapsar ve ekolojik olarak, Orta Avrupa'nın son doğal nehir polder manzaralarından birine ev sahipliği yapan Oder vadisi ile karakterizedir.
