Neckar, 362 kilometre uzunluğuyla Rhein nehrinin en önemli yan kollarından biri ve Baden-Württemberg eyaletinin merkezi su kaynağıdır. Villingen-Schwenningen yakınlarındaki Schwenninger Moos doğa koruma alanında 705 metre yükseklikte doğar ve Schwarzwald ile Schwäbische Alb üzerinden kuzeye doğru akar. Neckar havzası yaklaşık 14.000 kilometrekareyi kapsar ve Almanya'nın ekonomik olarak en güçlü ve en yoğun nüfuslu bölgelerinden biridir.
