Grunewald, yaklaşık 3.000 hektarlık yüzölçümüyle Berlin'in batısındaki en büyük kesintisiz ormanlık alandır ve şehir halkı için merkezi bir dinlenme bölgesidir. Ağırlıklı olarak Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf ilçesinde uzanır ve batıda Havel nehrine komşudur. Orman çoğunlukla çam ve meşe ağaçlarından oluşur ve Grunewaldsee ile Schlachtensee gibi çok sayıda göle ev sahipliği yapar. Tarihi açıdan önemli olan Jagdschloss Grunewald, 1542'de Kurfürst Joachim II. Hector tarafından inşa edilmiş olup Berlin'in günümüze ulaşan en eski sarayıdır. Dikkat çekici bir kerteriz noktası olan Teufelsberg, İkinci Dünya Savaşı'ndan kalma bir moloz dağıdır ve üzerinde eskiden ABD müttefiklerinin bir dinleme istasyonu bulunuyordu. Yürüyüş ve bisiklet yollarının geçtiği bölge, yaban domuzları ve karacalar için de yaşam alanı sunar. Metropoldeki konumuna rağmen Grunewald, doğaya yakın bir orman alanı karakterini büyük ölçüde korumuş olup sportif faaliyetler ve huzur için alan sunmaktadır.

The terrain is predominantly flat with wide, sandy pathways and dense mixed woodland, making it very straightforward to navigate. Occasional minor inclines exist near the lakes, but overall it is exceptionally easy walking.

Standard casual walking shoes or reliable running sneakers are completely sufficient for the well-trodden paths here. Bring a bathing suit in summer if you plan to visit the lakesides, and pack drinking water for longer treks.

Parking is typically available at various entry points and specific recreational spots along the major bordering roads. However, spaces can become extremely scarce on sunny weekends, making public transport a better choice.

It is a very safe urban forest heavily frequented by locals, families, and dog walkers. Be aware that wild boars are relatively common in the area; give them plenty of space and keep dogs closely controlled if encountered.
