- Visit the dune at sunset for the most spectacular views as the sun goes down over the Atlantic.
- The official car park is paid and fills up quickly in high season. A good alternative is to arrive by bicycle or bus from Arcachon.
- Climbing the dune is more strenuous than it looks. Take plenty of water and be prepared for hot sand on sunny days.
- Check the tide times. At low tide, you can walk far out on the beach and see the vast Banc d'Arguin sandbank.

Try them straight from the producer at one of the oyster huts ('cabanes à huîtres') around the bay, served with lemon and local white wine.
Freshly boiled shrimp, often available at local markets like the one in Arcachon. A simple but delicious seaside treat.

You'll find many small shops in the coastal towns selling marine-themed clothing, decorations, and local crafts.
Escape the sun and the crowds with a walk through the vast pine forest (Forêt des Landes) located right behind the dune.
Take a shuttle boat to this nature reserve opposite the dune. It's a paradise for birdwatchers and a peaceful spot to relax.
Most visitors stay on the bay-facing side of the dune. Walk over to the other side to experience the vastness of the Atlantic with fewer people around.

Die Dune du Pilat ist ein Naturwunder an der Einfahrt zum Becken von Arcachon und die höchste Düne Europas. Mit einer Höhe von bis zu 110 Metern erstreckt sich diese gewaltige Sandformation über fast 3 Kilometer zwischen dem Ozean und einem dichten Kiefernwald. Es handelt sich um eine dynamische Struktur, die sich durch Windeinfluss jedes Jahr um einige Meter landeinwärts bewegt. Besucher können den Gipfel im Sommer über eine installierte Treppe oder direkt durch den Sand erklimmen, was eine sportliche Herausforderung darstellt. Oben angekommen, bietet sich ein Panorama, das den tiefblauen Ozean, die türkisfarbenen Gewässer des Naturschutzgebiets Banc d'Arguin und den endlosen grünen Teppich des Waldes von Les Landes vereint. Die Düne ist ein Mekka für Gleitschirmflieger, die hier ideale Aufwindbedingungen finden. In der Umgebung locken die berühmten Austernhütten der Region, wo fangfrische Meeresfrüchte direkt am Wasser serviert werden. Die Düne ist von Bordeaux aus leicht erreichbar und gehört zu den meistbesuchten Naturdenkmälern Frankreichs.
