Formosa Ha Tinh Steel (Vietnam)

Weather…

Formosa Ha Tinh Steel (FHS) is one of the largest industrial projects in Vietnam and the nation's first major integrated steel complex. Located in the Vung Ang Economic Zone in Ha Tinh province, it is operated by a consortium led by the Taiwanese Formosa Plastics Group. The facility features its own deep-water port, Son Duong, which is indispensable for importing raw materials and exporting steel products. FHS produces millions of tons of flat steel annually, including hot-rolled coils that are strategically vital for Vietnam's manufacturing sector. In 2016, the project made international headlines due to a massive environmental incident, resulting in much stricter environmental regulations and substantial compensation payments. Since then, the company has invested heavily in wastewater treatment plants and monitoring technologies to ensure more sustainable operations. The steel complex plays a key role in decreasing Vietnam's reliance on steel imports. It serves as a major economic driver for the Central Vietnamese coastal region and encourages the growth of local supporting industries.
