Khe Sanh Combat Base (Vietnam)

Weather…

The Khe Sanh Combat Base was one of the most strategically significant and heavily contested outposts for U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War, located near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). In 1968, the base became the site of a 77-day siege by the North Vietnamese People's Army, which is remembered as one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the conflict. The U.S. Air Force launched Operation Niagara, conducting massive aerial bombardments around the base to prevent its capture. Despite the successful defense, in July 1968, U.S. forces decided to abandon and destroy the base to redeploy troops to more flexible positions. Today, the site serves as a museum and memorial where visitors can view the remnants of the airstrip, bunkers, and abandoned helicopters, tanks, and aircraft. Khe Sanh is a powerful symbol of the war's intensity and the strategic turning points that eventually led to the withdrawal of foreign troops.
