Registan (Uzbekistan)

Weather…

The Registan is the undisputed heart of the ancient city of Samarkand and one of the most magnificent examples of Islamic architecture worldwide. The name means 'sandy place' and originally designated the site of public assemblies and proclamations. The ensemble consists of three monumental madrasahs: the Ulugh Beg Madrasah (1417-1420), the Sher-Dor Madrasah (1619-1636), and the Tilya-Kori Madrasah (1646-1660). Each of these structures is a masterpiece of tilework, featuring azure mosaics, geometric patterns, and Arabic calligraphy. Ulugh Beg, the Timurid astronomer and ruler, personally taught astronomy and mathematics here. For centuries, the square was a center of education and trade along the Silk Road. Today, the Registan is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the ultimate symbol of Uzbekistan. The harmonious arrangement of the buildings and the glowing blue domes attract millions of visitors annually, bearing witness to the golden era of Central Asia.
