It was the absolute first aquarium in the world to successfully grow a living giant kelp forest in a massive 28-foot-tall tank, utilizing raw seawater pumped directly from the bay. The institution is also globally recognized for its profound conservation efforts, particularly its successful rehabilitation of adorable but critically endangered southern sea otters.
