Kamuli is the administrative and commercial capital of Kamuli District in the Busoga sub-region of Eastern Uganda, located about 140 kilometers northeast of Kampala. The town holds significant historical and cultural weight as one of the traditional seats of the Kyabazinga, the monarch of the Busoga Kingdom. Economically, Kamuli serves as a focal point for an intensive agricultural region, with sugarcane cultivation being the dominant activity to supply the processing plants in nearby Jinja. Additionally, the district produces substantial quantities of maize and beans for domestic consumption. Kamuli is home to key infrastructure including the Kamuli Mission Hospital and several educational institutions that serve the wider sub-region. The town's connectivity was significantly improved by the tarmac road link to Jinja, enhancing its role as a market hub. The social fabric is deeply rooted in Basoga traditions, which continue to influence local governance and cultural celebrations.
