Adale, also known as Cadale, is a historic coastal town located in the Middle Shabelle region of Somalia. Situated approximately 120 kilometers northeast of the capital, Mogadishu, it lies along the shores of the Indian Ocean. Adale has a deep colonial history, serving as a key center for the Italian protectorate over Somalia in the late 19th century before the administrative capital was moved to Mogadishu. The town's architecture reflects this past, with several well-preserved colonial-era buildings located directly on the waterfront. Geographically, Adale is renowned for its expansive white sandy beaches and productive fishing grounds, which provide the primary livelihood for the local population. In addition to fishing, livestock rearing in the surrounding savanna areas remains significant. In recent years, Adale has emerged as a stable regional trade hub, supported by improved security and investments in local infrastructure, including schools and clinics.
