Church of Saint John the Baptist
The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Fiorentino is the most important religious building in the municipality (Castello) of Fiorentino in San Marino. The current church was built between 1937 and 1940 on the ruins of a much older sacred site, believed to date back to the 5th century. It was designed by the renowned Sammarinese architect Gino Zani, who employed a historicist style blending Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements. The facade is constructed from light-colored local stone and features an elegant portal and a rose window. Fiorentino was historically a significant stronghold belonging to the Malatesta family of Rimini before it was definitively annexed by the Republic of San Marino in 1463. Inside the church, visitors can find precious religious artifacts and a serene atmosphere for prayer. Dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint of the municipality, the church serves as a vital community hub. Its design harmoniously fits into the rolling landscape of the region, testifying to the architectural continuity of the 20th century.
