Saratov Bridge (Russia)

Weather…

The Saratov Bridge crosses the Volga River, connecting the cities of Saratov and Engels. At its opening in 1965, with a length of nearly 3 kilometers, it was the longest bridge in Europe and the Soviet Union. The bridge is made of reinforced concrete and was built using an innovative process employing prefabricated sections. A characteristic feature is the arched spans in the central part, which allow passage for large river vessels. The construction of the bridge was a major logistical project that significantly accelerated the economic development of the region, as previously only ferries or winter ice roads were available. In 2014-2015, the bridge underwent comprehensive renovation to ensure its load capacity and safety for modern traffic. It is considered one of the most important landmarks of the city of Saratov.
