Mount Narodnaya (Russia)

Weather…

Mount Narodnaya, fittingly translated as 'People's Mountain,' holds the esteemed title of the highest peak in the entire Ural Mountains, the ancient geological spine dividing Europe from Asia. Situated deep within the wild, Subarctic Urals, the summit sharply pierces the surrounding barren alpine tundra with its dark, jagged formations of quartzite and schist. Despite its relatively modest absolute elevation, the mountain possesses a decidedly high-alpine, hostile character, heavily defined by merciless arctic weather, perpetual permafrost, and steep corries cradling small, persistent glaciers. The peak was surprisingly late to be accurately identified, only mapped and named during a major Soviet geological expedition in 1927. Today, Mount Narodnaya is a centerpiece of the pristine Yugyd Va National Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site protecting vast, untouched landscapes of profound ecological value.
