A contract worth approximately 2 million lei has been awarded for the construction of a bridge over the Călmățui River on the DJ 653 county road. This infrastructure project aims to improve transport safety and connectivity in the Zimnicea region.
Zimnicea is the southernmost town in Romania, located in Teleorman County on the left bank of the Danube River. Its history is deeply rooted in antiquity, with the nearby Dacian fortress of Zimnidava serving as a testament to the area's long-standing strategic importance. The town's modern appearance was drastically shaped by the devastating earthquake of 1977, which led to a near-total reconstruction and gave the city its current socialist-modernist architectural character. As a significant Danube port, Zimnicea plays a vital role in the regional economy, particularly in the trade and transport of grain from the surrounding fertile plains. Directly across the river lies the Bulgarian town of Svishtov, with which Zimnicea maintains close economic and cultural ties. The surrounding floodplains offer unique natural landscapes and are popular spots for fishing and birdwatching.
