Nicolae Romanescu Park (Romania)

Weather…

Nicolae Romanescu Park in Craiova is the largest natural park in Southeastern Europe, covering nearly 100 hectares. It was designed between 1901 and 1903 at the initiative of Mayor Nicolae P. Romanescu, based on plans by French landscape architect Edouard Redont. The park's design was awarded a Gold Medal at the 1900 Paris World Fair. The landscape is characterized by its romantic style, featuring artificial lakes, canals, waterfalls, and a wide variety of exotic plants. Architectural highlights include the Suspended Bridge, spanning the lake, and the 'Enchanted Castle', a photogenic structure perched on a hill. The park also houses a velodrome, a hippodrome, and a small zoo, which is among the oldest in the country. With over 35 kilometers of walking paths, it serves as a central recreational hub for Craiova's residents and a monument of European landscape art. Extensive restoration efforts in recent years have returned its historic structures and gardens to their original 20th-century grandeur.
