Rodna Mountains National Park (Romania)

Weather…

Rodna Mountains National Park is the second-largest protected area in Romania, located in the northern part of the Carpathians, within the counties of Maramureș and Bistrița-Năsăud. Spanning an area of nearly 47,000 hectares, the park is characterized by impressive glacial relief, featuring deep valleys, sharp ridges, and numerous glacial lakes, such as Lake Iezer. The highest peak in the park and the entire Eastern Carpathian range is Pietrosu Rodnei, reaching an altitude of 2,303 meters. The flora and fauna are of exceptional diversity; rare species such as the edelweiss and the chamois can be found here, as well as large predators like the brown bear and the wolf. Due to its ecological significance, part of the park has been recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. For hikers, the park gives numerous marked trails leading to spectacular waterfalls, such as the Horses' Waterfall (Cascada Cailor), the tallest waterfall in Romania. The region is also known for traditional mountain pastoralism, practiced here for centuries.
