Qatar National Library

The Qatar National Library (QNL) is an architectural masterpiece located in Doha’s Education City, designed by the world-renowned architect Rem Koolhaas of OMA. Opened in 2018, the 45,000-square-meter building features an expansive, open-plan interior that maximizes natural light and fosters a sense of community. The library houses over one million printed books and provides access to vast digital collections, supporting global research and learning. A key feature is the Heritage Library, situated in a six-meter-deep sunken marble excavation in the center of the building, which preserves rare Arabic manuscripts, historical maps, and documents related to Islamic civilization. QNL serves as both a national archive and a modern public library, equipped with cutting-edge technology such as automated book sorting systems and interactive media walls. With various event spaces, a large auditorium, and specialized zones for children and students, it acts as a central hub for culture and education in the region. The building's unique design integrates bookshelves directly into the floor structure, rising in terraces to meet the reading areas.
