Beyond its history, Wieliczka is a renowned health center with an underground sanatorium for treating respiratory conditions. The SKA1 local train typically takes about 25-30 minutes from Kraków Główny to Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia, a few minutes' walk from the Daniłowicz Shaft. The Tourist Route can only be visited with a guide. It starts at the Daniłowicz Shaft, covers about 3.5 km and reaches a depth of 135 m. There are roughly 800 stairs, including 380 at the start; visitors return to the surface by lift.

The SKA1 local train runs from Kraków Główny to Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia, a few minutes' walk from the Daniłowicz Shaft. Kraków bus 304 also serves Wieliczka. Check current timetables before travelling.

The Tourist Route stays at 17-18 °C. Wear comfortable shoes and suitable clothing. Only small carry-on luggage up to 20 × 20 × 35 cm is allowed; strollers are not recommended because of the stairs.
