Chancay Megaport (Peru)

Weather…

The Chancay Megaport is one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in South America, located approximately 80 kilometers north of Lima. The project is being developed primarily by the Chinese company COSCO Shipping Ports in collaboration with the Peruvian company Volcan Compañía Minera. Designed as a deep-water port, Chancay is intended to serve as a central logistical hub for trade between South America and Asia, reducing dependence on North American ports. The facility includes container terminals, multi-purpose piers, and a specialized logistics park. A unique feature is the construction of a tunnel over 1.8 kilometers long that connects the port directly with the industrial zone, relieving traffic in the town of Chancay. Due to its natural depth of up to 17.8 meters, the port can handle the world's largest container vessels. It is expected that Chancay will significantly reduce logistical costs for Peruvian exports and open new trade routes across the Pacific. The project is part of the 'Belt and Road Initiative' and marks a turning point in the region's maritime geography.
