Jacob's Well
Jacob's Well is a site of immense historical and religious significance located on the outskirts of Nablus in the West Bank. Associated with the biblical patriarch Jacob, the well is traditionally believed to have been dug by him after he purchased land in the area. Its fame in the Christian tradition stems from the New Testament account of Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman by this well, a narrative central to the Gospel of John. Currently, the well is housed within the crypt of the Bir Ya'qub Greek Orthodox Church, a building that stands on foundations dating back to the Byzantine and Crusader periods. Reaching a depth of over 40 meters, the well still yields fresh, cool water, which pilgrims often drink or take home. The church interior features beautiful iconography and traditional stone masonry, creating a serene environment for reflection. As a site shared by multiple faiths, it remains a poignant symbol of the region's long spiritual heritage.
