Halesi Mahadev Cave, located in the Khotang district of eastern Nepal, is an exceptional pilgrimage site of great importance to Hindus, Buddhists, and Kirat believers. It is often referred to as the 'Pashupatinath of the East'. The cave, which is about 67 meters deep, consists of a complex of three interconnected caves. Inside, there is a shrine dedicated to the god Shiva. for Hindus, it is the place where Shiva hid from the demon Bhasmasur. For Buddhists, it is a sacred place associated with Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), who meditated here and attained immortality. The Kirat community venerates this place as their place of origin. The cave is dark and mysterious, with various rock formations interpreted as representations of different deities. The journey is challenging, but the spiritual atmosphere and unique syncretic worship make Halesi an unforgettable destination.
