Chaukhtatgyi Buddha (Myanmar (Burma))

Weather…

The Chaukhtatgyi Buddha is one of the most revered reclining Buddha images in Myanmar, housed in a large pavilion in Yangon. The original image was commissioned in 1899 and completed in 1907, but it was later demolished and rebuilt in 1966 due to structural issues and aesthetic changes. The current statue measures 66 meters in length and 16 meters in height, featuring a serene facial expression with glass eyes and vermilion lips. One of its most significant features is the soles of the feet, which are decorated with 108 sacred symbols of the Buddha. These symbols represent the three worlds of the inanimate, the animate, and the conditioned. The temple complex also includes a monastery for over 600 monks.
