Èze Village (Monaco)

Weather…

Èze Village is an extraordinary medieval hilltop village perched like an 'eagle's nest' on a limestone cliff 427 meters above the Mediterranean Sea. Its history dates back to the Celto-Ligurian era, with subsequent occupations by Romans and Moors who valued its strategic vantage point overlooking the coast. The village is renowned for its labyrinthine cobblestone streets, ancient stone arches, and beautifully preserved buildings that now house art galleries, boutiques, and world-class hotels. At the village's highest elevation lie the ruins of a 12th-century fortress, which was largely dismantled in 1706 by order of King Louis XIV of France. Today, these ruins are integrated into the Jardin Exotique d'Èze, a botanical garden featuring a remarkable collection of cacti and succulents from across the globe. The garden has a 360-degree panoramic view that spans the entire coastline towards Cap-Ferrat. The yellow-ochre church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, with its distinct Baroque bell tower, remains a central landmark visible from the surrounding valleys. Èze perfectly embodies the blend of historical gravitas and dramatic natural scenery that defines the French Riviera.
